DIFFERENCES OF AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTIVITY BETWEEN FEDERATION UNITS
AND ITS DETERMINANTS, 1970-1995
Abstract: The objective of this study is to describe, compare and analyze the evolution of the production, the use of inputs and the agricultural productivity in the Federation Units, deriving from the modernization process in the decades of 70, 80 decades and middles of the 90s. The analytical tools were: the modern theory of the index numbers to obtain the utilization of inputs and aggregate productivities by superlative formula of Fisher; the regression models applied to panel data to explain the influence of the partial productivities and other variables on the total productivity by estimators of binary variables and random effects. The results showed that in 1995 the factor productivity in the agriculture was higher in the southeast, south and center-west regions than in the others Federation Units. The productivity of work, land and fertilizers affected positively the total productivity of factors. The school levels of the rural population and the intensity of the use of modern inputs – defensives and fertilizers – have indicated the levels of total productivity of factors. The quality of the lands, important component of the productivity in the 1975-95 period, has become less relevant in the last years, because of the increase of the agricultural horizons with the modernization.
